Doberman Pinschers

This time, I'm sort of going not from my list, as I was thinking of Dobermans lately. I don't know why, but I was. So, more on the Dobermans, Mr. Doberman, a German tax collector, invented the Doberman Pinscher to protect him on his rounds to collect taxes. Being the 5th smartest dog in the world, Dobermans are intelligent and protective. They were created with the German Pinscher, the Rottweiler, thuringian shepherd dog, Black Greyhound, Great Dane, Weimeraner, German Shorthaired Pointer, and German Shepherd Dogs. Dobermans are powerful, tough, strong, agile, built for speed, loyal, protective, intelligent, fierce, scary, and muscular. They can be typically black with rust markings (Like a rottweiler) and SOME are brown with rust markings. They have a mighty bite and a wedge-shaped head. Ears of a Doberman are usually cropped and held straight up, and the tail is usually docked. Though, Dobermans need professional help to get their ears PERFECTLY straight. Dobermans are trained to be Police Dogs, Search And Rescue Dogs, Guard Dogs, Family Dogs, and they are fun dogs to be around/with. Dobermans usually are GREAT family dogs who are great with little and older kids, but HAVE TO BE SOCIALIZED WHEN IN PUPPYHOOD! As I have said before, Dobermans are VERY smart and are Very easy to train which helps make them a great family pet. They can have health issues is not from a reputable breeder, so make sure to check your sources when getting a Doberman puppy. Shedding and Grooming isn't a big problem. They have smooth, short coats that help with no shedding indoors. Unfortunately, they CANNOT be in cold weather enviroments and have to be indoors when cold comes and put a jacket or a coat on them when they go outside in cold weather. See my Google+ page to see an Animal Planet video on Dobermans.

Beagles

So, next on my list is Beagles. Beagles are one of the most famous and well known dogs in the hound group. They are trained to be bomb sniffer dogs and sometimes search and rescue dogs. They can even go hunting with their owners and being a GREAT family pet. I once owned (well, lived with, you can't really OWN an animal.) an Arabic Beagle. The funny thing is that his name was Kuta, which in translation (his name is also Arabic) means dog. He was unsocialized around animals (he tried to attack a dear statue once) but LOVED people and was GREAT around kids!  He would howl sometimes and bark others, but he was my first dog and the best. :-)

Rottweilers

Second on my list of Favorite Dog Breeds is Rottweilers. Another German breed (yes, I'm part German, and yes I love German dogs) and also an amazing breed. One, I think the top scariest breed of dog, the Rottweiler has the strongest bite in the canine world. In German, Rottweiler means "Red Brick Dog". Rottweilers were bred to pull carts and defend their masters when harm came. The Romans loved this breed and brought some to Rome, but the Rottweiler roots still stand firm in Germany. If not trained properly, Rottweilers can be savage beasts that attack at anything for no reason ending in having to be put down. But, if trained properly and well socialized, Rottweilers can be GREAT family pets, GREAT guard dogs, and an Amazing dog. Rottweilers are tough, caring, and loving dogs when they learn to trust their masters. The only dog with a bite that comes even CLOSE to the power of a Rottweiler's bite would be the GSD. Wow! The Germans know how to make TOUGH dogs! For more on Rottweilers, please visit my Google + page to watch the video on Rottweilers from Animal Planet. (One of the animal websites I most trust next to National Geographic.)

German Shepherd Dogs

Yes, as they are first on my list of Favorite Dog Breeds, I post about them first. German Shepherd Dogs (GSD) were bred to be well, German Shepherds, but dogs. In Germany, they are taught to be protective and great herders. In America, we teach them to do things like police work, bomb sniffing, Search And Rescue, and MANY, MANY more jobs. Also, some GSD's work as military dogs. My GSD was being trained to be a military dog, but we adopted him and now he is a guard dog. The difference between American bred GSD's and German bred GSD's is that the American GSD's are more friendly, more playful, and WAY more energetic. My GSD, yes, is an American bred GSD. German bred GSD's are a lot more serious about their jobs and are more protective. Yes, American bred GSD's ARE protective, but in Germany, their roots stay firm. German Shepherds are GREAT with kids and are VERY smart. I like GSD's as they are a family dog and are great to be around little kids. As I said, they are smart, which makes training a little easier, BUT habits a little harder to break. GSD's may seem scary to little kids, so I suggest introducing little kids and the dog to each other BEFORE adopting the GSD.GSD's are great all weather outside dogs and great apartment dogs. They adapt to nearly everything, but they need a dog house and plentiful food and water if outside dogs. If apartment or inside dogs, they need regular excercise and attention. Oh! That reminds me! German bred GSD's are less of attention seekers than American GSD's. Both are great, but if you are an older couple who can't give your GSD constant TLC, then maybe a German bred GSD is perfect for you. For an active family, I HIGHLY suggest getting an American bred GSD. GSD's come in MANY different colors, patterns, and sizes. The typical GSD is brown with black marking. Sometimes white marking. White GSD's are NOT recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club) but, other GSD's like pure black or typical colored, ARE recognized by the AKC.With a purebred GSD, you can show them in competitions and shows, get licensing easier, and  you can also get certified with the AKC in case your insurance asks, or other questions concerning the breed of your dog arises. Getting a GSD socialized and trained, especially the first few days of its life, is VERY necessary. My GSD is very socialized with dogs, but has a crazy barking habit with cats. He doesn't harm cats, but just barks loudly at them and tries to play with them. For more information, see the video on GSD's on my Google + page.
